Agricultural Science was the first leaving certificate science subject taught in Coachford College when the leaving certificate examination was introduced here in 1976.

The subject syllabus contains a blend of both the theory and practice in the science of Agriculture and this is reflected in the way in which the subject is examined-75% for the written paper and 25% for experiments/practicals.

The school garden has always been used to carry out the trials/practicals and a Department of Education and Science outside monitor checks the practical work each year.

A new syllabus is due to be introduced and this will reflect the very fast changing trends in todays world of Agriculture and a new section on agricultural costings will also be included.
