The French Exchange Programme is an important and integral part of the Transition Year Programme in the school.

 

For the past ten years students from Coachford College have travelled to the Lycée Saint Sauveur in Redon in southern Brittany. Feedback from parents and students is extremely positive and the exchange has proved to be very successful.

 

The French school always travel during a week of term time and a week of holidays in France and the Irish always travel during a week of term time and a week of holidays in Ireland. In this way the pupils will only miss one week of school in their respective countries.

 

 

 

The Irish students usually travel to France first  where they are hosted with French families for two weeks attending school in Redon. They are fully immersed in the French language and culture and experience first hand the French educational system.

The students also visit major Breton tourist sites like Le Mont St Michel, the town of St Malo, Les Menhirs de Carnac and the towns of Rennes, Vannes and Nantes.

 

The students from Le Lycée St. Sauveur then travel to Ireland and attend school daily with their Irish partners. They experience the Irish educational system first hand. They are warmly welcomed by pupils and teachers alike and participate in a Ceili, a quiz, a treasure hunt and even learn how to play hurling/camogie and gaelic football.

The exchange involves a full month’s educational experience.
