Foreign Students

Coachford College serves a thriving population of foreign students, who for many differing and diversifying reasons, chose to receive an education in Ireland. We presently have students from South Africa, England, Germany and Congo.

We have a number of procedures in place that makes Coachford College unique in a choice of school. We appreciate the need for pastoral care and observation due to cultural and language barriers. Our rural setting close to Cork City allows a exclusive relaxed atmosphere for the student to adapt and adjust to their new environment.

To ensure a foreign student settles into Coachford College, we have a number of procedures that can be helpful

Regular contact is available with the school to ensure progress and issues resolved at the earliest possible chance to ensure the student maximises their ability and time at Coachford College

Assignment of a tutor to the student to ensure monitoring of their progress. All the student's teachers are informed to ensure full inclusion of the student.

Organisation of some 1:1 hours if the student doesn't have English as a first language. This is subject to Government approval but has proven to be a great help and encouragement to the student.

Although we don't cover all European languages in our curriculum, we can organise for the student to take a state examination in the subject and help to guide them in the needs of the syllabus.

We welcome foreign students with open arms and every help possible is given to ensure the inclusion and development of the student. In the last 10 years, students at Coachford College have achieved highest result in Ireland in a Leaving Cert Subject 6 (yes SIX) times!! Subjects include Physics, Maths, Irish and Applied Maths.
