Teacher Groups

The main objective is to ensure that pupils work at a level and speed which is suitable for them. The school is committed to "streaming" and "setting" pupils in all year groups. Pupils are taught most subjects in groups formed on the basis of attainment in those subjects. Groups of classes from the same year are timetabled simultaneously for each of the core subjects so that there is opportunity for pupils to be transferred between groups if their progress warrants this. The strict policy of setting pupils in terms of ability has resulted in the creation of class groups where the level of competition enhances the performance of all. Given good teachers and comfortable accommodation, PEER COMPETITION is the key to ensuring that children realise their potential.

First year is a "sampling year" and so there pupils take a wide range of subjects. Pre Leaving Certificate students face a similar decision and, at this stage, career interests and aptitudes are major consideration.
