Whether you are voting in a general election or standing for the national anthem in the No. 10 jersey in Croke Park, national pride and activities affect each and every citizen. From the state of the Irish Republic to our membership and activities of the European Union, we all need to understand and develop our knowledge of current affairs through the varied political strucutres, reasons for decision making and our national pride-the national anthem, the national flag and voting system of proportional representation. Civic, Social and Political education was formerly known as Civics and is now a compulsory examination subject for the Junior Certificate. Every student takes one class per week for their three year cycle where they learn about politics, civic pride and social circumstances. The subject is examined by a project and a written examination. |
