Materials Technology-Wood encourages the students, through the design process, to employ practical problem solving skills. It promotes the application of scientific and technological knowledge through the use of various materials.

This subject is taken as an option for the junior cycle in first year. It is examined at the end of three years by means of a project, portfolio and theory examination. Practical work is an emphasis and carried out routinely in the comprehensively equipped workshop classroom in Coachford College.

Students generally proceed to choosing Construction Studies when they progress to senior cycle.
